Presidents Message Lions v Armadale

Stirling Lions President Don Evans

Stirling Lions President Don Evans

It’s Round 11 of the Football West Premier League of football and todays Big Match battle is between our Stirling Lions and the lads from Armadale with both teams desperate for maximum points hoping to climb the ladder and away from the dreaded relegation zone.

I would like to welcome new Armadale President Tony Greipl and all his hard working committee, coaches, players and supporters to Macedonia Park for todays important fixture.

It is a sad day as today the club will honour and pay tribute to a former leader of the Stirling Macies/Stirling Lions who passed away after a battle with pneumonia last Friday. Vic Demiris was President of our great club in a 4 year reign where he assembled a great group of players who won honours and cups while Vic took the club through the visionary name changing process from the Macies to the Lions. He has left us with much sadness in the air, but before his parting had great hope for the future of Macedonia Park as a proud and historic venue for football development in WA. One minute silence will be observed today in his honour and also another great member and supporter in Chris Tolis who sadly passed away a fortnight ago. The families of both great men will be a part of the tribute.

Vic and Chris, you will both be sadly missed by all who knew you, but your positive spirit’s will remain in the stand and clubhouse of Macedonia Park forever. Rest In Peace.

Our fortunes on the field have been down the last fortnight away from home with 4-0 and 3-0 losses respectively to new kids on the block Canning City and Swan United. Hopefully the boys will repeat the great form they showed against Cockburn with the return from injury of key players Marc Anthony and Ludo Boi. The midfield has been missing the spark and I am sure these lads will help revive it.

Our Resies have had better results with a 4 all draw at Canning followed up by a 4-1 win over Swan while the Under 18′s are back on track with a whopping 9-0 win and 4-0 victory in the past two weeks.

Two up and coming footballers who return back from Adelaide today after having played for the Perth Glory in Friday’s scratch match with Adelaide United are Ryan Pearson from Armadale and Dean Evans from Stirling and we wish both lads well over the coming months in their quest for A league experience. We also have Steven Hesketh and Ludo Boi who are right in the mix for this years Glory campaign. Both Ryan and Dean arrive this morning and are not expected to start for their respective sides.

Finally win, lose or draw I wish all football supporters a great day here at Macedonia Park as we look to ROAARRRRRRRRRRR THE MIGHTY LIONS ONTO VICTORY!!!!!!
