Summer has arrived and Football West together with six regional football associations and Healthway’s Smarter than Smoking program will be kicking off a Beach Football exhibition tournament staged on beaches stretching from Albany to Broome.
“Kick it from A to B” will give children aged 9 to 14 years the chance to showcase their flair, skill and style on the pristine beaches of Cottesloe in Perth and our regional areas including Albany, Busselton, Bunbury, Geraldton, Canarvon and Broome on Saturday 13th December, 2008.
Beach Football is the latest exciting progression of the world game and allows children to continue to be physically active over the summer period, whilst utilising the magnificent Western Australian coastline. The emphasis is on expression, style and creativity rather than results, allowing all children the opportunity to take part in a friendly and positive fun filled environment.
Football West Education & Development Coordinator Lea Stinton believes the Beach Football experience will open up the game to a whole new participant group both in the metropolitan and regional areas.
“This is a fantastic program and we are delighted that our six regional associations and Smarter than Smoking are on board to promote the game to the kids” said Mrs Stinton.
“The emphasis is on creativity, style, skill and being able to express yourselves in a fun and safe environment. It gets kids active and it’s a fantastic way for us to reach those kids who may not usually play football” she said.
The games are played in a six (6) a side format with four interchange players allowed.
The events will be held on Saturday 13 December at the following venues:
- Middleton Beach – Albany Junior Soccer Association
Busselton Pier – Leeuwin-Naturaliste JSA
Koombana Beach – Country Coastal JSA
Cottesloe Beach – Football West
Foreshore Beach – Geraldton JSA
Town Beach – Carnarvon JSA
Cable Beach – Broome JSA
